Originating in Karelia Finland, this exceptional dog is an amazing hunter! Alert and brave, the Karelian Bear Dog has a powerful hunting instinct. Bred to hunt bears, moose, deer, elk, and even wolves. These bold and gutsy dogs will ward off bears instinctually, as well as warding off dangerous animals like wolves and coyotes. This is a rare breed, and is considered to be groomed as a working dog, sporting dog or hunting dog. They make awesome companions, as they are highly intelligent, strong and steadfast protectors especially in the bush!
It is recommended you research this breed, if you have not heard of it before. This dog is not recommended for new dog owners, as it is suggested that seasoned dog owners who are firm and consistent in training are best suited for the Karelian Bear Dog.
This is a high energy dog who needs lots of exercise and therefore is not suited to apartment life. It is best to use caution around small children but with plenty of consistent socialization, the Karelian Bear Dog will be a welcome addition to your family!
